Using Windows 7 64 bit Premium, internet explorer sometimes fails and the message reads something to the effect of need Internet Explorer security update, yet when I try to find it Microsoft download center tells me that there are downloads needed. (Example - IE lets us open and read facebook, but if we try to rite to facebook it gives the above message.

I considered simply reinstalling IE8, but I am concerned about losing bookmarks.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Please post the exact wording of the error message.
You need to expand on that - do you mean no downloads needed?
By bookmarks I assume you mean Favourites?

Back them up to a location on your hard drive ....

File > Import and Export. Once exported they can be imported again if lost.

Thanks for the reply. You are correct - it should have read no downloads -sorry for the typo. As to the exact message wording, it appears that whatever the issue was it has corrected itself, since it is now working perfectly. I did absolutely nothing different than before, therefore I have no explanation.

I think for future solutions, better to update and your windows updates.
if you look under START/Programs/windows update, this will update whatever needed to Iexplorer too.
