I just bought a Netbook Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit
Asus Ecc PC 1215 I set it up on my home network using the homegroup.
I know very little about networks and home groups but when I set it up it detected the homegroup and asked if I wanted to join. Perhaps I have complicated things doing that. I don't need to share anything with these two computers except the internet connection. Should I have the netbook leave the homegroup?

There is only one profile, mine, on the netbook. The first time I boot up I get this message:

c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or a network. Check to make sure the disk is properly inserted or that you are connected to the internet or your network, and then try again. if it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location.

What does this mean? When I try a second time it comes up okay.

I should mention that I have an iPhone that uses my internet connection wirelessly also.

Did you try connecting the netbook with your iPhone turned off. I wish I could remember the thread I read somewhere on WindowsBBS that some wireless phones can interfere with connecting to internet. Sorry about that. I read all the unread posts each day maybe I should write down some of what I read.

If you do not need to share any files then "yes" would be the answer.

The second problem may dissapear when you leave the homegroup.

Networking is far from my forte, but I would suggest that .....
simply means that the netbook is not seeing the desktop on the network ??

I have left the homegroup and will see if the error persists. It is intermittent so I will report back shortly.

The iPhone is the other possibility I thought of so I will try the netbook startup with it on and with it off. Thanks.
