Lately FreeCell has stopped working, it loads but in the name bar the letters are weird characters and when you select new game, a game comes up, but you can not play because the cursor is an hour glass? I have unistalled games and re-installed from my win98se CD! No change!
I believe that a file needed by win98 to run Freecell has been deleted or over written possibly by a newer version.... any sugestions?

    p.s. other games work OK!

    thanks

gordo; I had the same problem, turned out to be my anti virus program. I ended up having to disable the run in background feature, or turn it off to play free cell.

Same thing happen to me. It happened
just after I had installed Outlook Express 6.0.
By unstalling O.E. 6.0, Freecell started working.
Your situation may be different, but that
    is what I ran into.

    Maybe this helps.

    Ditto - with a twist

And my wife isn't real happy about it!

Mine is doing the very same thing as gordo's but with a different wrinkle. When I click for a new game the cards show up in the window but they are about five times wider than they are tall. It's like you hold them horizontally at arm's length and try to read them from the bottom edge of the card. Weird.

I haven't installed IE6 - I don't have a virus - (at least according to an updated Norton AV and HouseCall and Trend PC-cillin) and I don't have Freecell in a usable form.

Freecell took a hike on us once before and the only thing that brought it back was an unrelated formatting session. I love my wife and I want to keep her happy but I do have my limits.

Unless someone out there comes along with a real fix for this, not requiring major surgery BTW, please, I may have to spend the next few weeks grounded in my room. :(

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

    Found my problem

Well gordo, I found what was causing Freecell to not work on this computer. It was Hardcopy, the utility that I use to capture and print screenshots almost daily.

I just took a shot in the dark and did the Ctrl-Alt-Delete thing and End Tasked Hardcopy and. . . Voila!! I lucked out on this. Hardcopy just happened to be my first choice and it turned out to be the right one. Ain't it grand when a plan comes together?

Why don't you give it a try? Just *End Task* one entry at a time and start Freecell after each one and see if you have something running that is causing your problem. Remember, DO NOT select and End Task either Explorer or Systray.

When I told my wife that the problem was solved, the chill left the room and I am now on parole from being "grounded ". :D

    Hope this helps.
