I hope you can help. I am using Windows 7 on a Hp i7 860 ghz. with 8 GB RAM. Recently I can not open hyperlinks on webpages. I can do it in Firefox on the same computer. I reset internet exlorer but it did not help. I can do a work around by clicking on copy shortcut and open a new window, but that is getting old.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    thanks

    Hi,

This happens when a webbrowser no longer understand the command its given, possibly because its linked to another program, which is not available. Might be addons, might be the browser settings, might be a wrong registry key. Try the things below:

    1
Export the following key from another machine, import it to yours.
    HKEY_Local_Machine/Software/Classes/htmlfile/shell/open/command

    2
    1) Go to Tools > Internet Options.
    2) "Advanced "-tab, choose "Reset ".
    3) Go to "Program "-tab, select "Set Programs ".
    4) Click "Set default programs ".
    5) Choose Microsoft Outlook, and click "Set this program as default ".
    6) Go to Internet Options again, choose "Make default" under "Default web browser ".
(Or you can set another browser to default, and then set it back to IE)

An addon is causing it. Try disabling all addons: if that works, try disablign them one at a time until you find the one that is not working properly.

Thank you for your response. If you can please tell me how to export the registry key onto my machine, that would be helpful. I also checked and I do not have any add ons installed.

Hopefully it is a registry key problems.
    thanks again

    Hi,

You can try running IE with the "noaddons" file aswell.

    Exporting:
Browse to the above mentioned folder.
    Mark the folder.
    Go to File --> Export.
Save it as a file, name it to whatever you like.

    Importing:
Go to the PC where it doesn't work.
Choose File --> Import, pick the File.

thanks for the quick response. I was able to export and import the file and it did not help. Also when I tried your #2, on step #6, "make default browser" was grayed out on mine. Not sure if that is of any help

    Any other suggestions?
    thanks
