I have tried everything i read to get my updates in. Nothing that i have tried has worked. Could there be something wrong with my computer? I have an Acer 4520 series with Windows Vista 64.

    Hi,

What is happening when you try to install the updates?
Or is the updates not showing at all?
Some error-codes / description would be nice.

In Windows XP the secedit-file would cause theese issues, however im not quite sure It's the same with windows Vista.

    I'd first go with this:
    1) Run CMD as Administrator. (Type CMD in the Start > Search window, right-klick "cmd.exe" and choose "Run as administrator ")
    2) Type the following command and press enter:
    fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\
    3) Reboot the computer.
This should reset the Windows file transaction log, which could help.

The way it was done in Windows XP was:

    1) Delete the following file:
    C:/Windows/Security/Database/secedit.sdb
    2) Reboot.

Find error codes associated with the failing update in the WindowsUpdate.log.

To open this log, type %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log in Vista's Start Search box & press Enter

Post the last ±75 lines in your next reply.

Dear Lilday, after months looking for help since my vista service packs would not install, I finally resolved the issue by writing to the Microsoft sites noted below. A software engineer took my case and gave me instructions step by step. I followed them and finally after about 4-5 mail exchanges, my computer was fixed. I was very pleased. They stayed with me until the issue was resolved.

    Windows Vista Solution Center
    http://support.microsoft.com/windowsvista

    Microsoft Vista TechCenter
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/default.aspx

I hope this helps you as it helped me.

Yes, that is certainly an option, and if we can't figure it out we usually point users to Microsoft's site.
