    Hi all

as you might guess, I'm attempting to test a Hitachi SATA HDD (HDP725032GLA360, a 320GB drive which seems to have a dud sector)

...so I've downloaded the Hitachi "Drive Fitness Test" (and the manual for it)

The first problem that I hit is that the diskette creator errors out at the point where it requests country info, with the message "First call to ConfigAdd failed." Googling around I find others also have this same problem, but I find no resolution.

No matter, there's another option, an ISO which I've burned to CD. This actually works(!) and detects the HDD correctly ...trouble is that it doesn't provide any options which actually test the drive (as described in the manual). The manual shows this, but what I actually get is this (only a Features menu; no Fitness Test). Reading the manual makes it seem that F10 should raise the menu for the various tests, but instead all it gives is this (i.e. less options, as opposed to more) ( "Help" doesn't do anything at all, BTW). It's as if there's a whole load of options which are inaccessible, or (I'm guessing) simply left out of this distribution.

I think I've been through every possible route down all the menus which I can find - without finding any of the useful tests.

If anybody knows a way of making this this darned thing work, then 1) an enormous tip of the hat to you, and 2) please could you let me in to the secret!

(the version of the "Feature Tool" is given as 2.15 Build 0)

    TIA and best wishes, HJ.

Try using the official Hitachi site its on version 4.16

    http://www.hitachigst.com/support/downloads/

Also, read everything under Notes as this software is not suitable for certain drives and is not for use on a 64bit OS.

As you use this site quite a lot it would be usefull if you could enter your system details.

    Hi markmadras, thanks for replying
yes, that's site which I used, and that's the version which errors out while creating the diskette...

...but I think that you have probably found the solution to my problems! - frustated at the diskette creator failing, when I returned to the Hitachi site to get hold of the ISO I must have inadvertently scrolled down and grabbed the "Feature Tool" ISO, rather than the one for the "Disk Fitness Test" whoops! Better go and get another cup of coffee before trying to go any further...
The reason why I don't do that is simple: there are many computer systems here (5 in regular use) and I tend to change the hardware around quite frequently, depending upon requirements. Were I to fill in the details of any one of these systems it would only be misleading to someone reading another thread which refers to a different machine, or to a different hardware configuration (TBMK, the particular computer which I'm using to test this HDD has not been mentioned in any thread at BBS before). If system details have any bearing upon a thread, then I put the details at the top of the thread, rather than "globally ".

    best wishes, HJ.

Glad to here it's sorted:). I though it a bit strange that the diagnostics wouldn't run:D we all make mistakes.

    Understood re the system specs:)
