According to the M/Bd manufacturer the controller is 'onboard'. Can this be upgraded to a 100/133 without buying a new motherboard?

    On Board IDE

    * Support 2 x IDE Connectors, up to four devices
    * Support Ultra DMA-33/66 extensions for 33/66MB/sec transfer rate

No. And unless you are ready to buy a new motherboard, don't worry about it!!!!!!!!!
Your new drive will work just fine AS IS!!

Install your new drive with a fresh load of Win2000, then load the drivers and your programs and off you go!!

Don't get bogged down with all the tech stuff you have been reading. No bios update should be needed as well. Maybe, if you can, have a friend there with you so you both can figure things out together. I think it's impossible to list ALL the possible things you might see during the install. Back up everything important to you first!!!!!!

    Question about the 133 Card

I've been advised that I can add an ATA 133 "card" to the m/board. This is a possibility later on, but not now.

Now my question is this: Do I have to get the card from the M/bd maker, or can I get any controller card?

Of course you can add a PCI controller card. Several different companies make them, but the Promise controller cards are supposed to be very good. Good luck.
