Restricting access per parents request

I have a client with two computers, one used by the parents and the other by their daughter. They were both bogged down to almost a crawl by the many enhancements and trinkets downloaded and installed by the daughter. I spent several hours deleting and cleaning up the parents unit and then password protecting via the BIOS login and screen saver password required to protect the unit against further tinkering by the daughter. This seems to have solved that problem for now. Now they want me to clean up the daughters unit, and fix it so she can't disable Norton AntiVirus and enable her music sharing kazaa which is how she has brought in several viruses recently. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations to accomplish these goals? I am thinking of trying to configure Norton AV and then removing all visible evidence of it's presence and hoping she won't find it buried in the program files, or making it invisible as a more drastic solution. That still leaves blocking the use of the Kazaa up for grabs, not sure if Norton A/V automatically blocks Kazaa which would explain her disabling Norton or if I need a third party solution? Trying to outsmart teenagers on the computer is truely a challenge.

 

Norton Antirvirus settings can be password protected, and that stops it from being disabled, I think.

Do you mean disable kazzaa or enable?

 

Could you post which OS it is?

Mark the OS is Win98 FAT32, and from another posting I have just discovered there are system policies that can be installed and implemented even in Windows 98 so I am going to try that on a spare HD I have for experimenting.

Symetrix; Thank you, I did not realize that Norton could be password protected, I will investigate that avenue as well.
The father asked me to remove Kazaa and fix it so it could not be reinstalled or enabled. The machine is old, underpowered and small HD none of which are conducive to using Kazaa. The computer is for her school work and he wants it limited so it will continue to do that job reasonably well. Her indiscriminate downloading has been the cause of frequent breakdowns and he is trying to end that.

If you still need extra security, I would recommend a program named ranger, www.rangersuite.com - it can close programs by titles (if you entered kazzaa, if they tried to reinstall or run it, it would be closed down because it was in the title) You can monitor websites, block, and a lot more customization than able with system policies
