I bought a dell optroplex gx520 without a cdrom it has a place for it but there is no hookup for it on the motherboard, it has a sata harddrive, is there a splitter for a sata cable that i can run them both off the one sata hook up on the mother board. or is there a adapter to hook up an ide cdrom. there is no ide conector eather on the mother board. i never seen anythig so stuped. thanks for your help in advance.

Which model is it - Mini Tower, Desktop or Small Form?

Although there may not be an IDE connector I would feel sure that there would be at least 2 SATA ports, one of which would take a SATA CD-ROM/DVD-ROM/RW.

IDE connectors on the motherboard are becoming extinct as are floppy drive connectors - it's called progress :)

You are right :) Small form computers are small on facilities too!

Nevertheless the documentation indicates that a CD-ROM drive can be fitted to the computer via the IDE port which is by no means of standard size. Looking further the cable would appear to be specific to Dell.

You cannot run 2 devices off a single SATA port, but an option to consider would be an external USB CD-Rom drive.

Apparently the SFF is more like a laptop and uses a slimline drive.

Here’s a site that has both cable n drives.
