Well the monitor in question is a fairly new NEC Multisync V720 and it has decided that it doesnt like red anymore. green and blue are fine, but no red, it was fine one second and red-less the next?? As i said it is only a couple of years old and i really am at a loss. i have tried all the windows settings and also the monitor settings ( The buttons on the front of the monitor) but the only time i see any red is when i press the buttons on the actual monitor, and thats only to tell me what option im in. so obviously the monitor is ok (I hope) ?? But where is red from windows or anything else?? And how do i get it to return??? even booting up the text is a lovely cyan colour, but i do miss the white. Any guesses............

First thing I would do is to try the monitor on a different computer if you dont have another computer then take it to a friends. If the problem is still there then the monitor is crapping out if the monitor works fine on a different PC then I would try to reinstall the video drivers for your video card if that doesn't work then it may lie in the video card itself. definitely test the monitor on another PC before you do any driver or hardware changes. I don't mean to sound negative but I had a similar problem with a old monitor a while back it turn out the red electron gun was dead so I trashed the monitor for a new one. Mine would show a reddish shade on the Windows logo but in solitare the cards were all black.

Fairly new? Still in Warrenty? Usually one year on everything and 1 - 5 yrs on CRT.

Also try another monitor from a friend on your box.;)

Well i did as suggested and tried it out on a my other pc, and it worked for about 10 mins then clicked, the screen wavered and abracadabra i had no red again. The monitor was given to me when my Father in law bought a whole new package with a bigger one included, he used to work for NEC so got on the very cheap as it was a display model so i dont think i am covered by a warranty. the only red i have is when i use the buttons on the front of the monitor and the list of options comes up, they are highlighted red, but thats it, no red to be seen, i have a murky blue and a scummy looking yellow thats all. Its a very nice monitor when it works and i really dont want to have to buy a new one (budget will collapse) but it looks like that might be my only option......:(

Do you use both computers at the same time? How about arranging your good monitor so you can plug it into whichever one you are using? To switch, you would have to power down, switch, and power up.

Otherwise, you can check around online places for good deals on monitors. The one I am using now was $202.00 with the shipping. It's a 19 inch. Not the best for sure but works just fine for my use. I got it from Googlegear. :)
