I need a Windows 7 driver for my HP Laserjet 5 printer and the only place I know of on planet that has it is Microsoft. Problem is it is available only from the printers "Add Printer" dialog where you can then get it from "Windows Update" and install it automatically.

I have been getting "try again later" for two days now.

Does anyone know of a way to manually download those drivers from the Microsoft web site?

Failing that, does anyone know of a Windows 7 driver available from any other site.

Clue #1: HP doesn't have it.
Clue #2: Vista and 7 use the same driver.

HP have windows 7 drivers listed here? Have you tried them?

    EDIT:

OK I think you have as after following the instructions you're directed to windows update (my bad sorry).

One link I've found here does allow you to download a driver installer exe but I cannot vouch for this site at all, use at your own risk.

I found that web page before posting. It takes you to an explanation on how to get the driver from Windows Update.

I found a way to get the driver; but, it sure was a back-door, convoluted, up-side-down way of getting there. I searched and read parts of about 60 or so web pages and finally found this thread in another forum that had a post at the bottom, which I quoted below.
I went to another of my Windows 7 machines and found the above-referenced folder and copied it to the machine where I needed to use the driver. Windows will not let me copy that folder into the same path it came from so I pointed the "Add Printer" wizard to it and the printer now works fine.

So, if anyone is ever looking for the same driver (not likely on such an old printer) and is getting the same failures from Windows Update that I got for the last two days, you can find it at the above-mentioned path of about any Windows Vista or 7 system on which the expanded printer list has been obtained from Windows Update.
