7 good or bad

Just wondering what the general concensus is on Win7

 

And that's coming from someone with experience. Then again I don't think we have much option. Seems a shame to be pushed on from such a stable system as XP.
Wonder if we have anyone out there still on 98..shocking system I thought so the move to XP was great.
Looking at the windows 7 home premium upgrade family pack which I can get landed from the USA cheaper than buying it here in OZ.

 

It does take a while to get used to. I have a dual boot with XP and now I keep forgetting XP is there. I only ever use XP to investigate solutions to problems on this site. There is only about three years to go before MS stop supporting XP so the change has to come. I wonder what version of Windows we will be discusing then

 

Oh I've spent my money too early it seems..I thought Xp had only a years support left.
Oh well, I'd better make the most of both.....but maybe should learn how to partition and dual boot.

Is it just me, I switched from XP Home to 7 Home Premium 2 weeks ago and was comfortable with it within a couple of hours?

 

I really like Xp from over 98. I have two machines XP and 7 Plus a vista dual boot. I run XP mode on windows 7, I only I find that I just use xp to test out programs to see if they cause problem, or to see if I like the program. Windows 7 is by far the best system microsoft has put out so far,& has much better security over XP I just don't have much use for XP anymore
Upgrade to 7 is the way to go

 

Went from XP Pro to Win 7 Ult without a hitch.

 

I find Windows 7, 64bit great and easy to learn, but I'm learning that most software that I used in XP isn't compatible and I can't afford to upgrade them. That's my only beef.

 

That's where virtualisation comes in. Run incompatible programs in Virtual PC mode.

 

XP Mode

There was only one program that I couldn't run in Windows 7 64-bit, WinFax. I was using it when it was a product of Delrina, the original publisher. It hasn't been updated by Symantec for years and is one of those programs that were essential killed after the purchase of the company that created them.

In 1993 I communicated by Fax with my son as he traveled around the world. I couldn't adapt to any other Windows 7 compatible fax program after the many years -- more than 17 -- that I had been using WinFax. So XP Mode was a god send.

The only pain is the need to remember to "mount" my USB modem before running WinFax in the virtual version of XP that came free with Windows 7 Pro.

So is that basically a dual boot in one package without having to partition.
