i also have a vista that keeps crashing IE8, I tried the reset and it still seems to be crashing. The message says that it has encounter an error and then you hit ok and it doesn't reset. (just paraphrasing)

Just to confirm, you tried the instructions in this guide and you have re-installed IE8?

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378

Please tell us if this problem has existed ever since you installed IE8 or if it has just started. If the problem just started did it coincide with anything else, upgardes, new software, etc. If you have never got it to run without errors did you disable all firewall and ativirus software during download and installation.

OK, download a fresh copy and save it to the desktop. Then uninstall and install the new copy. Please keep your anti virus and firewall disabled during the download and installation.

If the above doesn't work try running IE8 without add-ons.

Navigate to "start menu" -> "All Programs" -> "Accessories" -> "System Tools" -> "Internet Explorer (no Add-ons) ". This starts IE8 without ActiveX controls or browser extensions.

Then see if it still crashes and report back.
