I am trying to get OE6 to 'read' a set of email folders I have recovered from backup. They are all .DBX files, and they are all in a folder 'Old email folders'.

I have tried moving all the .DBX files into the same directory as the new OE6 folders, and OE6 won't access them.

Once the .DBX files were in the folder, I tried making a new email folder with the same name as an un-read 'old email file', closed & re-opened OE and the data form the added file wasn't accessed.

I tired using file/import/messages and pointing it to the folder in which the new .dbx files are located, and get a list of files that is ONLY the new folder names.

    I'd certainly appreciate any guidence.

Copy all your backed up .dbx files into a folder, say OE Mails or Outlook Express, whatever takes your fancy, and set this as your Store Folder ....

In OE Tools > Options . Maintenance tab - Store Folder.

Click on this button and change the location to that of your new folder.

    Restart OE.

You will most probably lose emails in the current .dbx files on the new computer - you might export them first.

Sorry Pete it didn't work. I sent all the emails form the initial folders to my hotmial account in preparation for sending them back when the restored folders were active, but once I changed the store to the 'Old Email" folder, I still only got the inbox, outbox, sent & deleted, that are now in the 'old email folder.

I check the properties of all the folders & they do point to the 'old email' folder, but none of the 'other' restored folders are viewable in OE6. The "Old Emil' forler contains 34 files, and OE6 accesses only 6 with today's date, the others still have the restore date.

    Did I miss a step?

It's been a while since I last used OE, but the solution I posted should have worked :( ....

Check the properties of the folders you created in Old Email. If they are Read Only uncheck the box.

Forgot to add, the old OE had two accounts, one the same as in the new and the second an IMAP account, that I have chosen not to activate.

Does your 'Old email folders' include Folders.dbx ?

No access to the old computer the hardfile had a hardware failure & I have only the backups from Carbonite (online service). The problem might be the folders.dbx as it has the date of 11/25 and the backed up folders (I can't access) have an 11/17 date.

Any way for me to create a folders.dbx that contiains the names of all the backed-up folders?

Would I be advised to overlay the 11/25 copy of folders.dbx with the 11/17 version of folders.dbx from the backup?

I there a tool I could use to examine the contact of that file beofer the substitution?

No - OE does that as folders are created.
You could try, but I've no idea what the outcome would be - I guess you've nothing to lose :)
There are, but they are not freeware ....

DBExpress has superseded DBXtract which I have used on occasions in the past, and ....

OEX of which I have no experience, but which looks on the surface to be useful

    Edit ....

I found this freeware offering ....

Replacing the 11/25 copy of folders.dbx with the 11/17 version got me MOST of the backed up email folders. There were 2 email folders with the same date problem. I moved them to the folder, changed the Store folder and all is fixed.

    Thanks for all your help.
