It will quietly install Bing Bar without user permission. And it will keep on asking user to "Allow" it and WIndows Live Companion to run on IE out of protected mode. It's so nasty. What information will Microsoft capture from my computer via Bing Bar and Windows Live Companion?

As I said in your other post: It does not.

When you choose Install all of Windows Live Essentials (recommended) it does tell you that Bing Bar is included.

You'll just have to pay attention!

If you want to remove Bing Bar, just go to Manage Ad-ons from Internet Explorer's settings menu, select Bing Bar and click the Disable button.

    Hi Arie,

I don't install. I just help people revamp it. I prefer to uninstall it from Programs and Features. Disable it just not enough.

I asked the guy why he install "all ". He said he wanted to use the "Outlook Connector" for Hotmail.

I don't have a spare PC to try it. But Microsoft should better not to bundle everything and simply ask people "yes" or "no ".

I am worry about the privacy and security (for small business) of office365.com if the same approach is used.

It clearly states what is included. Fact is one should always choose a custom install, no matter which software.

There's no uninstall for the Bing Bar alone, probably because it's just a browser Add-on. Presumably completely removing WLE will remove it, but I haven't tried.

Surely you can remove it directly from Programs & Features (Control Panel)?

Yes, you can too... you'll have to reboot at least once though... when I tried I hadn't rebooted/restarted Windows, and there was no option to remove Bing from the control panel. After a restart it was there :)

Hi mark. Some people have been complaining about the Bing toolbar, labeling it as crapware since people have stated that it installs without their consent. But as Arie pointed out the installer states that the Bing bar is included and that you can just remove it from the Programs and Features Control Panel after the Windows Live Essentials installation completes.

I personally don't see how its a big deal. As long as you can remove it then I don't see why people would complain about it.

I've just hidden mine (I had to update WLE & I forgot to check the 'I don't want the Bing bar' box ) but I noticed it was in the control panel. You had me worried a bit there as I don't like toolbars that are difficult or well nigh impossible to uninstall. I may uninstall it in the future, until I saw this thread I forgot I was going to test it a bit to see if it is useful or not. I doubt that it will impress me.

I have always found that toolbars can be a little 'problematical'.

The search engine itself is OK.

No problem, but I don't want any toolbar. I know how to find my search engine of choice (all browers have a search box near the top anyway!).

I'm the same way. If I want to search for something I will just use the instant search box. Since thats what its there for instead of installing a toolbar.
