I've looked at posting at avg forum, but there doesn't seem to be a place for my problem.

    I'm using win xp

I've run System Info for Windows, Belarc, and BBSs DDS, and they all say the same thing: AVG 7.5 is Active and up todate.

    Belarc says:

    AVG 7.5.519 Version 7.5.519
Virus Definitions Version Up To Date
    Realtime File Scanning On

    DDS says:

    AV: AVG 7.5.519 *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) {41564737-3200-1071-989B-0000E87B4FB1}

    SIW says:

    AVG 7.5.519
    Company Grisoft
    Version 7.5.519
    GUID {41564737-3200-1071-989B-0000E87B4FB1}
    Status Active, Up-To-Date

Problem: I've uninstalled that program 3 years ago, and it still crops up as being installed. I've removed everything from the registry for avg and grisoft. I've followed the advice here: http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-free-forum?sec=thread&act=show&id=757

    and here:

    http://forums.avg.com/ca-en/avg-free-forum?sec=thread&act=show&id=55175

But according to the 3 operations above, as of today avg is active and up todate.

Question: Where is dds and the others getting the information from? Where does it say that avg 7 is active and up todate?

I'd like to get rid of this sucker once and for all. Can anyone help?

    Thanks

Possibly some dead entry in Add\Remove (is it XP?).
    Is it listed there?

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
    Download Mirror #1
    Download Mirror #2

    64-bit users go HERE
    • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
    • Vista users:: Right click on SystemLook.exe, click Run As Administrator
    • Copy the content of the following box into the main textfield:
      Code:
      :regfind
      41564737-3200-1071-989B-0000E87B4FB1

    • Click the Look button to start the scan.
    • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

I was hoping that systemlook would find something. All I got was 3 little words: "No data found." I should note that I've run several registry cleaners: ccleaner, comodo system-cleaner, RegSupreme Pro, Abexo, and a few others. They all show the same thing -- nothing regarding avg. I've also used Malwarebytes to no avail. There's also nothing in the add/remove of XP.

    I'd leave it alone then.
Surely, it's not active, so it shouldn't bother anything.

I used RegSeeker to clear out the AVG entries.

I guess I will have to live with it, but I'd sure like to know where belarc, wis, and dds are getting their information from. It must be reading some sort of file.

AVG insinuates itself. Open "Mycomputer" >C: >Program Files (remove AVG, Grisoft)
Close "Program Files ". Open (Your computer user name) > "Application Data" (remove AVG, Grisoft).
Back up the registry with ERUNT (lars hederer)--search for it, and install it. Next:
Go to Start >Run >type: regedit.exe >enter Click "Edit" tab and type in Grisoft. Delete anything with that name. Press F3 to continue searching for all entries. Go back and search AVG and delete anything associated with Grisoft.
Right-click on the Start button on your desktop. Select "Open All Users ". Look in the start menu for AVG, Grisoft. Delete those entries.
Let me know if you get that far. If no hear, ICQ me or PM.

thanks jabrwky, but I've gone through everything, and there is no sign of avg/grisoft anywhere. However, Belarc, DDS, and SIW all say that avg 7.5 is Active and up todate. It also says clamwin is Active and up todate, which is my AV.

Something to note: I have the new Oribt Downloader. It now checks what software you have and which needs updating. Well, its telling me there are certains programs that need updating, including avg 7.5. The funny thing is I've uninstalled some of those programs. So, all these programs must be reading some sort of file or something.

Download CrapCleaner and run it. See if it finds any traces of AVG. You can also do a registry clean with it and see if there is anything there. I have used this program (yep, the registry cleaner also) for years and never the first problem with it.

thanks MrBill, but I said in my second post, I've run "ccleaner, comodo system-cleaner, RegSupreme Pro, Abexo, and a few others" all to no avail.
