Hi, I've just restarted my PC after a shutdown of 2+weeks but get a quick Blue screen which comes and goes sooooooooo fast I can't read what it says.

Then it continues to reboot over and over with the same problem.
I cannot logon or boot into the system .
I have blown out any dust.
    Removed and reseated memory
Inserted a new stick also but the problem remains the same.

    Looking for help please
    Thanking you

Can you get into safe mode? if so follow this procedure and reboot, this will allow you to read the BSOD screen.

Report back with the full error message.

    Hi Pete,
    IDE Channel O Master None
IDE Channel O Slave Sony DVD Rom etc
IDE Channel 1 Master ST3300622A etc
IDE Channel 1 Slave HL-DT-ST DVDRAM etc.

Things are changing by the moment......as for your advice above GREAT but if I am unable to boot into Windows then I can't access or load the software.

I am hoepful we will win this one 'cause we're making progress thus far.

Roy, Read my post above ....
You boot from the CD - you do not need to have Windows running.

If this is your C:\ drive ....
    you require SeaTools for DOS

You could be correct re disk failure as I have been able to get all disks recognized.

IDE Channel O Master ST340014A....this is my c/- drive
IDE Channel O Slave Sony DVD Rom etc
IDE Channel 1 Master ST3300622A etc
IDE Channel 1 Slave HL-DT-ST DVDRAM etc.

I have attempted to download and burn the Sonic software as advised by you but on opening file I get "could not complete last command:unknown error" so I did not attempt to burn as I had previously burnt but without success.

Thanks for that but unless I can succesfully download the diagnostic software - DOS version there is not much point.
At the moment I am unable to successfully download the required software.

Yes, thanks 4 that, really do appreciate your help, but I have tried x 2 to download but get an error after the download is complete and I try to open it on my PC.

As in the first instance I downloaded and burnt but the files were incomplete.
When I attempted to open it I got "could not complete last command:unknown error "

Don't know if there is another site as apparently it should download with a couple of folders and 1 file according to the link Pete posted.. http://saveme.danfischbach.com/

Try the link I gave you in post 12.

Don't open the downloaded file or try to extract it, just burn it straight to a cd using the software I gave you the link for in post 10.

Thanks 4 that, sorry if some of us are a bit thick..me this time.
Great got it loaded but unfortunately can't read it as it is extremely fuzzy/blurry.
Have hit what I consider accept but honestly really need to be able to readit rather than guess it.

    Thanks
    roy

Neither ISO or Paragon were helpful.
I replaced the HD and even then ran into a difficulty related to RAM.
Who knows if that was not the problem all the time.
Might try to re-connect the removed HD at some time just to see if it WAS ok and that RAM was the issue.

I reloaded XP on another HD so all is well, might have lost some OE folders, other than that everythings OK..but I am tempted to re-connect the HD I replaced for out of curiosity.
    Thanks for your concerns.

That drive might just be severely corrupted by a virus or it has become defective.

I would be carefull it doesn't transfer any possible infections over to your other drive, scan it first with several different AV's. You could run it through all the scans recommended on our Malware and Virus forum. Then run the hard drive diagnostics. After all that you should know what caused the issue, if it was just virus infection the drive may well be fit to use again. Before further use (just be on the safe side) run a full format on it to whipe it clean.

I have ants in the pantry due to the wet weather we are having, but for the life of me I cannot comprehend how I can get a virus in my HD during a 2week shutdown of my PC.
Disk failure yes or dirt in the PC which there was.
Anyway, IF I get game enough to reinstall it will be interesting to see the results.
    Thanks.
