Hello All, I'm troubleshooting wireless connectivity with the following setup. Toshiba Win 7 laptop and a Cisco Model DPC/EPC2425 DOCSIS 2.0 Wireless G Residential Gateway.

When I'm @ my home setup, using an identical Cisco router I can join the network without any problems so I know that the laptop is configured & working fine.
When I'm @ the problem site I can't connect to the network using an identical setup.
I can see other networks in the area and on occasion I can see the network I need to connect to, but it appears intermittently and when I do manage to connect to it the connection drops almost straight away. (I am two feet from the router & there is a desktop connected via a wire & it's working fine.)
Here's another oddity, while @ the problem site there is an unsecured network in range that I can connect to and I can get the internet!

Things I have tried so far.
Reset the router back to it's factory defaults ~ No Joy.
Disabled windows firewall ~ No Joy.
Disabled all security settings & firewall on the router ~ No Joy.
Disabled anti virus on the laptop using Msconfig ~ No Joy.
There is a wireless phone & base in the area so I unplugged it and removed the batteries ~ No Luck.

    All suggestions greatly appreciated :)

    Regards

    Whacker.

Have you tried connecting your laptop to the wire and also tried removing the wire (that goes to the desktop PC) from the router to see if your laptop then gets the signal.

It sounds as if the router is the problem, transmitting a very weak signal. Can you try to get a connection with another wireless PC.

Try bringing the known good router to the problem site and swap it.

Okay Guys, got it sorted....there was another wireless phone on the other side of a wooden partition which was interrupting the signal, as soon as I disconnect it all connectivity was restored.

    Thanks again for your help.

You may be able to keep the wifi phone plugged in.

Login to the Cisco & change the AP's channel to 1 or 11. (the default is 6). 1 & 11 have the least signal overlap (most resistant to interference).
