i have a system that i had to rebuild back to defaults. client was using windows live mail. had no problem importing the old windows live mail into the new rebuilt system but having problems importing her old windows live contacts into the new live contacts. there is no import to bring over old live contacts to new live contacts so what do i need to do or is this not possible???

i tried to just copy and paste the old contents of the live contacts folder into the new contacts folder but it doesnt seem to recognize it.

Got this from this Microsoft page. Note that the import function for contacts is in the Contacts window, not in the main Live Mail window.

1.Open Windows Live Mail by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type Windows Live Mail*, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Live Mail*.

2.In the lower-left corner of the Windows Live Mail window, click Contacts.

3.On the Home tab, click Import, and then click the type of address book that you want to import.

If prompted, browse to the file that contains the contact information that you want to import, click it, and then click Open.

i do understand how to import into live contacts but there is not an import variable to import windows live contacts. it has .wab for express, .vcf, outlook, .csv and current user but nothing for windows live contacts. makes no sense they forgot this when you can import old live messages with no problem.

Yes, sorry, you're right. I misread your first post.

I vaguely remember reading something about getting the contacts in an Excel spreadsheet, then exporting them in a format Windows Live Mail could import but I can't find anything like that again.

I found this page right after I posted.

It looks promising and I plan to study it more closely when I have more time.

it doesnt make sense the microsoft forgot this ability. i work on a lot of systems where you cant boot into windows to do a csv file or any export but i can attach the drive to one of my other systems as a usb device and i can get to the data. if you can import live messages why the heck cant you import the contacts ??? hard to believe m.s. forgot to build this in.
