this last week or so i have been having the following problems

    1. The computor will load up and then either freeze straight away or freeze after 5 or so minutes.
2.When starting computor after crash i press the power button and the computor doesnt respond for 20-30 seconds after which it all comes back to life and starts up.
3.The computor has unexpectedly shut down during use twice over last couple of weeks.

i have run Malware bytes, advanced windows care and avast anti virus none have shown any issues.

i have also followed advice from a similar thread and run regcleaner and again this gave no issues.

the only thing i can think of that has changed at a simalar time was my trial copy of microsoft works 2010 has expired ,i have reverted to the 2003 version ,i can not delete the files left behind by 2010(they dont show up in the uninstaller list)

Will the pc eventfully run OK or is five minutes the max that it will run?

If it only runs five minutes "“ it could be a heat issue. Is the case full of dust bunnies?

hi it will eventually stay on once it is up and running although it has shut down twice after running for long periods,i thought it might be a heat problem ,so have ordered an extra fan,
when i checked my processor usage in the windows task manager i noticed that "wuauclt.exe" was using 122,692 memory i dont know if this has any cause or
    effect!

The file wuauclt.exe is responsible for checking with the Microsoft web site for operating system updates. It should only be found in the windows/system32 folder, if it appears in any other location it will be a virus that your scanner has not been able to locate. Do a manual search for the file to check on its location or locations. If you find it in other locations then you have an infection and you should go to the Malware and Virus forum, follow the instructions and post the logs as requested.

Fitting additional fans may deal with overheating but that will not rectify the cause. Your system has been working OK until recently so the cause should be established first before taking any other action. If it is overheating then it will be due to a faulty fan, bad contact between the heatsink and the CPU or dirt clogging the heatsink or the PSU.

Check that the PSU and the CPU heatsink are completely clean and that the CPU heatsink is not loose. Make sure the fans all run freely at start up.

I have not been able to check how much memory wuauclt.exe should be using but that figure seems quite high, you could try to disable it and see if the crashes continue.
