I have entered a time warp. In the last week my clock is getting slower and slower. I keep resetting it, but it gets farther and farther behind. I am thinking this is a battery problem, but what happens if I change out the batteries? Isn't that kind of serious? Am I right about the cause of the problem? What do I need to do to fix it? I will be grateful for your help...

Not a big deal. Get the right battery from radio shack. Did you get a book with your computer? It will tell you what battery it uses. If not, crack the case and look for it.:)

Is the time loss occurring whilst the machine is powered-up? Or only when it’s switched-off?

    Elizabeth,
Your system has the facility to adjust your time automatically by pegging it with an online mechanism that synchronizes your clock with the online time. It updates on a regular basis, but only when connected to the internet. Go to control panel/date and time/internet time tab.

I have never had a battery problem after many years of use, but with my new PC it looses time on regular basis and requires adjustment with the online synchronization. The clock is now very accurate and no problems whatsoever.

I believe if you remove the battery you will erase your password setting and possibly other settings as well.

To all threads, Thank you for your quick response!

First, thank you guys for your quick response. I have an always on DSL connection and my PC is always on except for an occasional reboot. I did see the time actually readjust yesterday. One minute it was around 7:30 pm and then it was 9:45 pm. So, I see the online sychronization you are discussing. But, it does seem to slow down often. My fear about replacing the battery was a fear of losing some settings, etc. I (obviously am in a state of complete ignorance about battery stuff) wonder if I could change out the battery while it was powered up?! LOL! I am sure my village is looking for me somewhere, and you are depriving them of their idiot. At least, I have a healthy fear of just poking around my motherboard, although when I first got it, it wouldn't run until I put the dipswitches back where they were supposed to be. (the dip that had the pc before me switched it wrong :D ) Thanks again- please recommend.

Should have done a better thread search.

:) Thank you for sending me to the thread, Brett. I did download TClock and get it set up. I am sorry to have all of you going over ground you had gone over before. Thanks, Brett, for truly asking the Sherlockian question about the curious case of the pc that was on or off. I thought for sure it was a quasi battery problem. I stand corrected. Thanks again to all of you who do such a super and patient jobs with those who are:

    So unworthy,
