no sound ??

    What gives. The diagnostic porgrans list no sound device detected. Another diagnostic gives a listing of a "Advance Logic ALS 120 Audio Adaptor ". However when I download the
    approriate driver it installs and creates a foldetr but nothing gives. NO SOUND!!! The sound worked before. Can Anyone help me out ?

    what is your OS?? and have u check is the volume is not off, sometimes windows or some program that u install can change your previous settings...

    sorry I am so used to posting in teh win 98 forum I forgot that I was in hardware.
    the volume (speaker ) is on. Previously the wound was working i.e before a reformat and reinstallation. The system in Win 98 (first edition) which has been updated fully.
    Any ideas of what to check ???

    Verify if it is the speaker. In control panel clk on sounds icon. Are you able to get a sound from any chosen event. If so, it is not your speaker.

    If no sound, you may have a partial disconnect of the speakers from the unit, bad speakers, or cables. If possible try a substitute

    Also, Rt. clk on My Computers/properties/device manager. Verify the subset components of the Sound, Video, and game controllers are functioning. Also click on system devices/system speaker and verify there are no conflicts. You may roll back to a previous driver or update.

    Problem could be hardware, software and/or settings! You had Win 98 FE and reinstalled 98FE? Updated fully?

    sound problem solved

    Ken,
    thanks for your help. The sound is now working. A combination of errors. The speaker on the computer not working.
    Attached the external speakers. Then problem of installation of drivers. Had to find one specific missing file and point to it.

    Combination of problems related to one component can very frustrating!! Appreciate the feedback that everything is now OK.
