sony rx550, ran full system restore after replacing mainboard, as soon as you try to run an executable that didn't come off of the system restore cd's, it will either say "unknown entry point in kernel32.dll" or "this is not a valid win32 application" have restored it 3 times- booted in safe mode, and had no problems installing sp1, even though booted in normal mode, it kept saying "this is not a valid win32 application" - any ideas? deleted rundll.exe and re-extraced from the cab files, no good, deleted kernel32.dll and re extracted, still nothing. anyone have any ideas? thanks for any response... this is just wierd!? BTW - loaded a copy of xp pro just to see what would happen (fresh install) and it works fine.... deleted and created new partition, ran restore, same stuff. we ordered new restore cd's from sony, same exact thing..

I take it you are running XP? If so try going to start run cmd which brings up the command prompt. Then type sfc /scannow
that is the system file cheker it will check all system files against orginals and will replace any corrupt or changed files. See if that fixes your problem.

thats whats wierd... sfc says everything is fine - can you run a search on your sony and see what the file size is on kernel32.dll? this on is 990k... im thinking about just ordering a new mainboard...

I re read your post and noticed that you said you changed mobo. Did you get a mobo from Sony or did you buy retail? If you bought retail then you can't restore with the sony disk. Sony has had special mobo's made for them. That is my problem now is I want to change my BIOS for video but can't because Sony locks me out and the exact model number of my Asus board is not listed on the Asus site as it was an OEM only board.

whoah, its been a while since i posted this - i am a sony authorized service technician, its a warranted sony board. the problem wound up actually being defective restore disks, basically put a damaged partition on the drive, then loads the software onto it -shawn
