I have .*dbx files all over my # 2 hard drive. Is there a program that will let me READ the messages, without opening Outlook Express ? Opening Outlook Express just opens the last storage
    area I created.(I formatted my C Drive and re-installed Win 98 SE
several times and then used a different area on my backup #2
hard drive to install e-mail messages.)Yes I can find the many
    dbx files using find *.dbx

DBExtract should be what you are looking for.

    Unable to read dbx files

I opened my old dbx files using Express Archiver.
Seemed easier to me.Looks like one cannot convert dbx to text files?

Alex, Express Archiver can save all your .dbx files in the .txt format if you set it up properly. The option is available in the profile setting area.

Although this is a pretty neat program, I must warn you that it has some dangerous pitfalls. The most important one is, when you decide to delete an old archive, you must excercise extreme caution when you confirm the ongoing actions. Under certain circumstances, it will revert back to the root of the drive you have the archives stored on and if you don't read carefully, you'll affirm the deletion of the C:\ WOW !!!!! Do be alert. Other than that, it's a winner.
