Have you checked the Intel site? They likely have a comparison between the CPUs they make regarding such attributes as: cache size, voltage requirements, instructions for certain applications, socket types used, prices, etc.

In response to your question, I would draw the following analogy:

1 GHz Duron is to a 1 GHz Thunderbirrd, as a 1 GHz Celeron is to a 1 GHz AMD like a Thunderbird.

I am guessing that the PIII (Pentium) likely provides more cache than the Celeron; the Pentium likely provides more instructions (that will make a difference for particular applications) than the Celeron; and obviously the Celeron will run at a higher frequency than the Pentium... The Celeron will run about 2X as fast as the Pentium but not in all applications. And my last remark may be way off depending upon the cache size of the 2 CPUs.

    Definitely check the manufacturer's Webpage.

i may be wrong but the celeron as alot less cache than the pIII, however since one is 500mhz and the other's 1.1ghz i'm not shure witch one is the fastest, you should take Brangwen advice and check the manufacturer's Webpage.

    maxmangion & Odlink:

    Above where I posted:
I meant to write: "a 1 Ghz Duron is to a 1 Ghz Thunderbird what a 1 Ghz Celeron is to a 1 Ghz Pentium III. "

In your case, maxmangion, the 1 Ghz Celeron will be faster, but given its lesser cache size, it may not be able to process as much data at once (like "through-put ") as a PIII of a lower Mhz like 500.

But I'm no expert! I've used both a 1.1 Ghz Duron and an Intel 600 Mhz Pentium III. The Duron is faster in some applications, but the PIII felt "stronger." Hard to explain.
