Does anyone know from experience whether there is a conflict between Windows Defender and Norton Internet Security Suite 2010? Thanks.

I had the same concerns today and was wondering if they did or didn't.

Hi Leushino, Broni suggests uninstalling Windows Defender and replacing it with MSS ( I think it is).
There was a Post recently about Windows Defender not being of much use. Have a look in the last 2 weeks in Security. Neil.

Hello, Retiredlearner. Installing MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) would not be the answer since it is a full-fledged anti-virus program and would definitely conflict with the Norton Internet Security Suite (2010) that is already installed on my computer. When my subscription expires in several months, I intend to do just that. In the meantime, my question remains: does Windows Defender (a malware detecting program) conflict with Norton? Thanks.

    Hello everyone,

This is Mike from the Norton Support Team.

The rule of thumb is to never have more than one firewall and one real-time security application installed. As Windows Defender is a real-time security application it is strongly advised that you disable it if you have a Norton product installed. Otherwise you run the risk on conflicts which can leave your PC more vulnerable to infection. By default, when you install a Norton product the installer should disable Defnender, and if you are using Norton Internet Security or Norton 360, it should disable the Windows firewall as well. If these services are not disabled you should then manually run LiveUpdate to ensure you have the latest version installed. Another thing to do is to run Windows Update, possibly multiple times, until you are informed that there are no more updates available.

    Thanks,
    Mike
