Windows 7 slow boot and shut down

    Suddenly, it seems, the shutdown time my Windows 7 home prem is taking is driving me crazy. The same is true with booting. I remember being directed to a registry entry where I changed the value and it solved the problem like a magic pill. I'm still running 64 bit, 8 gigs of ram and windows 7 home prem. The problem I'm sure has been solved, but not to my knowledge.

    Sorry, I missed this post. Are you still having this problem? Have a look in Event Viewer and see if you can spot any errors that may be related.

    Hi friessdr. If you are still experiencing slow shut down speed then try this,

    Click Start< Run and type regedit and hit enter. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Desktop. Locate the WaitToKillAppTimeout key. Right click it and select modify. Change the value to 2000 and click ok.

    After thats done navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control. Locate the WaitToKillServiceTimeout key. Right click it and select modify. Change the value to 2000 and click ok.

    Close the Registry Editor and reboot the computer for the changes to take effect.
