    XP Pro/2k Guru's,

Does anyone know what these services in XP Pro are? Zone Alarm is blocking them and I can not download from certain FTP Sites. Yet I do not want to unblock them, because I have an aversion to my computer doing things behind my back that I do not ask it to do.

I have a legal OEM copy of XP Pro, from when I bought the parts to rebuild my box.

    1) Application Layer Gateway Service
    2) Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services
    3) Microsoft Management Console
    4) MS DTC Console Program

    Thanks,

    dbm

    Thanks,

I read and found out about the Application layer Gateway Services, but in the limited time I could not find the other three, I did download the services zip and will read that.

    Hi again,

I am not a programmer, nor do I understand much about the XP/2k OS applets. I could not find any reference to the following
applets in the link posted above.

Do these have different names in the PDF I downloaded?

If not, could anyone enlighten me as to what these services are?
And why are they trying to pass the lock on Zone Alarm?

    2) Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services
    3) Microsoft Management Console
    4) MS DTC Console Program

    Thanks for your time.

Also, I do not have any other Microsoft applications on my XP Pro OS Drive, I use it exclusively for Digital Audio Workstation applications, and have only a few apps on the drive.

    Thanks BV

I got two of the four. I could not guess what the other two links were for, but I really appreciate your time and efforts.

    From Here
So if you are not on a LAN/WAN or if you aren't doing distributed transactions (where multiple machines may work on pieces of the same job at the same time) you won't need it.

    That wraps it up Newt,

Thanks everyone for your replies. I guess it is ok to let the first two through and deny the others because they are not needed.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
