    Hi all,
when I turn my desk top on from time to time it will get as far as the win xp then shut down and start up again. Some times it will even get fully loaded showing the desk top icons then shut down and re boot.

I have done a full scan with Avast and Malwarebytes but neither pick any unwanted things up.

Could this be a problem with my Pc or might there be an infection in it?

    regards

Hi mate, ive had the same problems on my computer recently and now it doesnt even get the windows logo anymore, have you had any error messages or bsod's (blue/black screen of death)? if so what did the error say? also have you tried staring it in safe mode? you can get to these options by pressing the F8 key on your computer when u start it up just keep pressing it until the options appear and you can try safe mode see if that works

You may have a classic example of the Windows Log on/Log off loop - it would be worth following through the options here .....

There might be an infection which Avast and Malwarebyted have missed, have you been running both of these AV's in the background because that can cause problems, you should only keep one of them active and the other disabled.

I could not even get into the Safe Mode via f8 so instead went through the msconfig. The system restore was turned off for some unknown reason so I turned that back on, done a restore and all is fine now.

I forgot to mention that I cleared the Prefetch as I was told this would speed things up (not sure if this had any thing to do with it).

    Thanks for the replies
