I use Kompozer as a nice, freeware html editor. I just realized that XP's Open With menu lists it as "Composer," as opposed to "Kompozer." I'm really not sure how or why this happened, but I'd like to edit whatever list/title XP uses, to determine how to spell it, b/c I thought it wasn't in the open with menu, as I would never look in the C part of the menu for Kompozer.

Does anyone know what I can do, to change the spelling? Where does XP keep the list of program titles, that is displayed in the Open Wth menu?

I'm sure this is not a bug, but a glitch, in that somewhere in the code for Kompozer, there is a file with "Composer" in it, as this program came from Netscape's old Composer component. I'd just like to find out where the Open With menu looks, that's all. the actual exe in the Program Files menu is in fact, spelled "Kompozer. "

If you select a file with Composer - what happens? Does Netscape open or does Kompozer?

Kompozer opens it up, when I select "Composer" from the Open With menu. Actually, I don't have Netscape Navigator, and its Composer utility, installed. I was just explaining why I thought that Windows was somehow reading the name "Composer" that had not been changed, when Kompozer was released.

Someone can probably tell you the exact location...but you can open the Registry Editor->EDIT->Find and find Composer..User the F3 key to find the next entry...

Just be sure you're editing the correct entry.

Interesting. I just did that, made sure to start at the top, and I found 20 or so Composers--but none that were associated with Kompozer (at least from what I could tell). They were all Microsoft this or IAnimation that.... I'll install a nice registry searching utility when I get home, and try with that.

I found out where it was. I used RegSeeker to find the key, and went to Current User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache and found the key there that had Composer. I backed up the MUICache key, and then changed/modified the data to Kompozer. I went to an html file and sure enough, the OpenWith menu gave as an option, Kompozer, and no Composer. And yes, Open With works fine, opening up the file in Kompozer just fine.

I believe many of the "OpenWith" programs are there (in the MUICache), if not all of them, as there were many programs listed there.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
