Hi, I have a Matsu****a 7502A Burner. It is a few years old now and I'm starting to have a few probs.

Win98SE picks the burner up, the correct drivers are installed, all the burner programs pick the burner up, my problem is that it won't burn.

I mean, it says it is burning and when the cd has finished burning the bottom of the cd has been burnt like it is supposed to. Furthermore, if I make a music CD, the songs show up but they won't play. If I make a data cd, it doesn't show anything, but the bottom of the CD has been burned to.

Any ideas as to what the problem is?

    Thanks,
    Joel.

    You wrote:
First: Your burner may be shot. It happens. If you finalize your CDs after burning audio data onto them, as you know they should play on any CD player. Will finalized audio CDs you have made play on a regular stereo CD player? Second: Had you changed anything prior to your problem beginning? Like your brand of media? If so, that may be a reason for your difficulty. Third: Have you checked the tech support for your burner? Or trouble shooting tips in your manual, if you have one?

If you know you have the proper drivers, and you know you have good media that is also a brand you have burned onto before, and a finalized CDR that you have burned with audio will not play on a regular stand alone CD player, then it is likely your burner is shot.

How old is it? Is it under warranty?

    Good luck.

Or just try burning music at a slower speed.

Read and Write are two separate functions. Apparently you are writing ok, since you infer that the disk shows etched action at the bottom (hub). That would tend to indicate that the problem might be in the 'read' function. I don't think you have a software problem.

This could be a problem that affected the "read" function hardware and not the "Write" function. They do use different parts of the hardware. Writing uses the laser gun while reading uses the laser gun and a photoelectric pickup head. Your only option is to do a thorough cleaning of the drive using compressed air. Hopefully this will blow some lint off the detector head and allow it to see again. If you have the expertise needed to expose the internal part for clear access, so much the better.

If that doesn't work, get on down to the New Burner Store and get yourself something that works.

    Regards.

    fixed

I've fixed the problem. For some reason, Adaptec Easy CD Creator Premium won't install properly. I've installed Nero and the burner is now working.

Yeah I know. Tell me about it. I was thinking I was going to have to fork out some money for a new bruner. It is great to know I've saved myself a bit of money.

Thanks to those who tried to help me.
