In the Device Manager, under Sound, video, and audio controllers, everything listed appears with a yellow and black exclamation.

I've tried uninstalling drivers, installing drivers, and disabling, but this will not resolve the issue.

When I click on the Properties tab, I receive errors 41 and 19, depending on what I select.

I just removed some malware, and had no audio issues before I was infected. I was helped with the malware by broni in this thread:

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/malware-virus-removal/95795-fake-windows-security-essential-now-no-sound.html

Any suggestions on how to fix this so I can have my sound back?

    Thanks.

OK... here's what those codes mean:

Personally I would format & reinstall, but you could try a repair install first:

Boot from the WinXP CD (you may have to change a setting in your BIOS that allows you to boot from the CD). Do not choose the option to repair an XP installation using Recovery Console when prompted, choose the option to To set up Windows XP now press ENTER.

After more files have been copied, you'll get another selection screen where you should select the current XP installation, & the option To Repair the selected Windows XP installation, press R.

If you do a repair install, be sure to check Windows Update directly after!

    Hi Arie,

I tried what you suggested and the errors are still there.

After I did the repair, now I can't connect to my wireless connection and get this message:

"Windows was unable to find a certificate to log you on to the network... "

It now just says 'Validating identity' while trying to connect.

    Any suggestions to fix that?

Hi 4deuce, the repair install does remove drivers which you should be able to replace.

This link will show you how to replace all the windows standard drivers.

    http://www.ehow.com/how_5787993_replace-missing-drivers-windows-xp.html

Follow this guide and then report back with a detailed list of any other drivers that are missing. Please right the details exactly as listed in Device Manager.

Please also tell me the make and model of your computer.

    I have a Compaq Presario 2000, v2565

It says the drivers are loaded successfully, but cannot find the hardware device. I've installed website drivers and also off cd's, but nothing has worked.

Right now, I'd just like to connect to my wireless network, and solve that problem. If anyone could help?

    Thanks.

After I updated with Service Pack 3, I was able to connect to my wireless network.

Now, as for the audio? Nothing has worked.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

The first thing to try is to delete the driver and reinstall it. Download the latest Audio driver from the HP site.

That doesn't work. I've uninstalled the Audio device, loaded drivers from both the website and the original CD(on different occasions), and I still get the error.

Is there a way I can edit/fix the registry?

Have you tried uninstalling the audio drivers (do not reinstall) and then rebooting, this should allow windows to automatically detect the hardware device.

Is the audio device listed in the bios, it should be under peripheral devices?

Have you tried the audio driver from here.

I tried to find this earlier on the HP UK site but your model could not be found, but I just found it on the US site. All the correct drivers are here for your computer.
