You can't. The web site (developer) gets to decide how to code the page.

You'll have to use a 3rd party tool for your password management in that case (or try another browser).

Lets try and test something, give me the address of any website where it won't save your password and I'll see what happens when I use it. As long as it is a free site I can create an account and see if my password is saved.

When you went to 'Delete Browsing History' did you check all the boxes? When I did it I unchecked the top box that preserves favourites data. If you didn't do this it may be worth a try. As I said earlier I have since seen the 'Save Passwords' prompt return.

    Now that's interesting.
I used it for a webmail service that I haven't used in a while and the password reminder worked!
However, for my University Virtual Learning Environment (Blackboard), the prompt does not appear, whereas it does in Firefox.
One of the reasons I would like to enter my VLE via IE is because the latest version of Firefox has a few problems with Blackboard which I'd like to avoid, but having to login afresh each time is a pain.
Here is the access page. See if you get a prompt.

Unlikely in IE, as that those are JavaScript written, as noted before that won't work with IE8.

Fitz, I tried that site but it says use your windows log in name and password, well, I don't use a password so it didn't work.

Anyway, you have seen the prompt again as have I, after deleting my saved passwords.

I think that concludes this thread as there doesn't appear to be anything wrong, it's just the way IE8 works with passwords and that there are quite a few sites where passwords do not get saved.

On Firefox(any version) the Blackboard site asks if I want it to remember the password, but maybe IE (any version) does not work that way with this site.

I conclude as you do that IE does not therefore seem to offer to retain passwords in as many sites as Firefox does, which marks a curious and hitherto unmentioned difference between the two browsers.

Thank you for your help and suggestions.
