When going to Windows update page today, the page came up but the "Scan for updates" did not appear. I have never had this problem before, & don't know what to do next???? Tried going into the microsoft troubleshooters page, & I can't figure out how you navigate your way around that list. Nothing on that list pertained to the problem I am having, so Please can someone help out with this serious problem
I am what you call a newbie as far as technical stuff, so am relying on people with knowledge about such things, to maybe come up with an answer.
    Thanks

Lucy--No, I would not try to put you on, at least not until I know you better.:)
I have Win98. My Windows Update procedure/page changed drastically about three weeks ago. I am told it is like (or similar to) the WinXP Update page now. But I have not seen WinXP's Update, so do not know what differences still exist.
On my new Update site, the first thing that happens is an automatic scan of my PC. However, this does not seem to be quite the same as the old scan (which led directly to the updates), because the next window has a "little green button" with a hyperlink next to it "Scan for Updates ". When I click on that, and wait a little while longer, I finally get the actual updates.
If your procedure is different, I am sorry that I cannot offer any further comment.

No little green arrow or button on the windows update page I get to for update on Windows XP.
I did have an update on the update page about 2 weeks ago, & that went fine. but as of today there is only a blank page with no instructions for updates???

    Thanks for your help

Lucy, check your Security settings for the Internet Zone. They have to be Medium of lower for the Updater page to work properly.

Then, just to be sure, try this link to access the Windows Update Page.

To all who helped with this problem, I thank you.

On returning to windows update page, after a few minutes a message informing me that there was an update on the update page. I did this, & everything seems to be back to normal (at least for the moment) I am thoroughly confused, as I just did an update for the Windows update page a couple of week ago.
Is anyone else aware of this second update in such a short time span.

Hope all will be OK, & again thanks to everyone who helped out.
    Much appreciated as always.
    Lucy:) :)
