I have a WD 160GB external drive I use only for backup. It presently contains 6 folders adding up to 88GB. But if I look at the disc's "properties ", "used space" is 123GB. I know there's some admin overhead for the drive, but 55GB? How do I find that phantom 55GB worth of folders/files so I can delete them? [fragmentation = 0%] Thnx

I would run "chkdsk /f" on the drive, you may have free space marked as allocated in the MFT (Master File Table).

Solved it! I don't know how it happened, but 55GB were being saved on the external drive for system restore points....it's now back to zero.
