Hello, Don't have lots of $$ but am using an old Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 (802.11g)
router. Can you smart people recomend a newer N type router because I'm running Win7 on 2 out of 3 of my computers. The old one works but I was reading that the newer N wireless routers maybe faster? Any ideas for best bang for buck,,,
    Thanks alot,
    ~Paul

I've used Linksys, DLink, and Netgear. They all operate about the same. Seems I recall that Belkin makes either DLink or Netgear (and that could be wrong, so don't hold me to it).

Anyway, a DLink can be had for around $40 at Best Buy and the other big box tech retailers.

Cool, I had a Belkin years ago before my first Linksys and found it to work pretty good. I would love to pay $40 for a good Router, I see some between $79-$100, that's crazy in my opinion. I don't need to many bells and whistles. Just to share my computers Broadband for internet & e-mails. Thank you basketcase Username ;-))

Keep in mind that 'N' will only improve computer-to-computer speed. It will not speed up internet access.

You also need to have 'N' wireless card in the computers. Check that before taking the plunge.

I have been using the D-Link DIR-655 for a while now, it works fine. In addition to allowing me to share between a wired desktop and wireless laptop, I have shared my wired printer and can now print wirlessly through the router from my laptop (if you care to shell out 30 bucks for the software you can also do this with a scanner as well). It most likely didn't slow my internet speed down much (going wireless)--I went from 18 megs/second on my old Linksys wired to 20 megs/sec on this one, using the wireless hookup (on the same laptop). The router itself has a utility called SharePort that is incredibly buggy, continually dropping the connection, but once I stopped using that to connect to the printer, things were fine.

EDIT: BTW its selling new on amazon in the 70-80 USD range.

Great help up to now!! I've learned a great deal especially from BudTheGrey because I thought the "n" in the types of Routers made for a quicker internet but it makes the connections faster between the router & the computers, printers etc. Like I said earlier I always used Linksys & 1 Belkin but D-Link sounds better all the time. Thank you so far everyone for all your helpful advice....

Yeah they kinda just got by today didn't they? I was expecting a real shootout, a bit disappointed but still a good game.
