A few nights ago, I was trying to increase the size of my C:/ drive since it was full. I have basic windows XP stuff on C and partitions E and F. F had plenty of unused space and I tried to get PM to move some of that space to C. I haven't messed with PM since I installed it sometime in 2001. Somehow, it deleted the drive identifier letter and now shows it as *:/Data instead of F:/Data. Anytime I try and move, copy or anything with that space, it give me an error message something to the effect that "drive identifier does not match ". Now that I tried to get it to recreate the message, the E: drive is now *:..... help!!!

    Welcome to the Board!

I used PM when I was still using Windows XP but I'm using Windows 7 now, so I can't display on my system what you're seeing on yours, but I'll suggest two possibilities for you to consider. Your immediate problem with partition names may be solved by doing a System Restore. Have you tried that?

The other issue involves a limitation to PM. It won't allow you to move space from one partition to another unless the two are adjacent to each other. From F to E, E to D, D to C, or the other way around. But not from F to C. You may already know that, but I thought I'd mention it just in case. You don't say anything about a D partition, which may be part of the problem, also.

Somebody else may come along and offer other ideas, too. Good luck.

LATER: I'm thinking that the real problem you're having now, especially the matter of the renaming of one or more partitions, stems not so much from PM but from Windows XP itself. I suggest you go to the Windows XP forum and start a new thread there to sort out that issue. You can mention what's happening with PM, but it's the renaming of partitions you'd like help with. Let us know how it goes, too, please.

An idea that might work, right click on My Computer, select Manage. Go into Disk Management. Right click one of your problem drives, and choose to Change Drive Letters and Path.
