Is my laptop dead?

I was using my one of my laptops the other day when it turned off in the middle of using it. When I try to turn it on now the power light flicks on and off and the fan tries to power up then stops then a few seconds later tries to go again. When i hold down f8 f9 and f10 the power light stays on and the fans goes a little long then the fan stops and the light stays on but nothing else. Thanks for the help

 

Could be the battery or the power supply that charges the battery. Have you checked it with a meter to see if the power supply is putting out the right voltages. It will be marked on the brick that you plug between the AC outlet and the PC.

 

No the power supply and battery are both working fine I think it might be the motherboad. Thanks for the suggestions though
