when I install a new OS, 1st thing i do is move (my documents back in XP, user folders in Vista and W7)

in vista the sub-folders from drive C started reappearing in the users file and after a while i had them all in duplicates (documents, music, video etc)

when i installed W7 i had a small problem with Pictures and Video the folder were locked with a padlock and i didn't have access to them, once i removed them from the library i managed to move them to drive D, but was never able to take ownership of them, so both remained (empty and padlocked in drive C), i didn't bother try to fix that since i was trouble shooting other issues, so i just marked them as hidden.

yesterday i noticed My documents is in duplicate as well, but this time i have full access to it and after some snooping, I noticed the whole user folder on Drice C was shared.

should i just delete those folders? (if i can?) any idea what would cause those folders to comeback to life?

Are you running a triple boot with Vista, XP and win 7? Are they all in seperate partitions?

What are the other issues you were troublshooting?

Strange behaviour with files that you are not contributing to could point to an infection.

well there is (maybe was) a tread in the vista forum on how to move the folders and i used those instruction, ill check your link and see if its any help.

i didn't have much time to answer your last post the other day so here goes:

    - already mentioned only have 1 installation of windows (the examples stated in post 1 was just trying to be thorough)
    - the other issues mentioned are posted in HD health and more but that looks like its been sorted I am currently testing the last RAM module on the last RAM slot, ill be reassembling everything tonight or tomorrow. if all goes well ill buy W7 in the next few days (my 30 days are almost up)
    - i didn't think i could be infected, i suppose an online scan is due anyways.

when i saw some folder returning to default, i thought it could be related to windows update overwriting my setting to the windows default, what is annoying is that the newly added folder don't have all the tabs associated with the personal folders (no location tab), it might be because I never thought of moving the Application Data folder. (the one on drive C is 542 MB and the one on Drive D is 550 MB)

edit: after quick look at your link, i think i know what the problem is:
I never did that part I just created the new user/(user-name) folders from with in the user in question.

ty markmadras ill mark this as resolved
