    Hello~All,
Just bought a new Dell system, will arrive next week...NOW,I'm concerned firefox/thunderbird won't run?
Isn't FF building for 64 bit? You can't buy a new computer that's not 64bits!!
Am I forced to use IE!!!
Any one have experience with this site - http://www.x64bitdownload.com/top-software-downloads.html
They offer firefox 64bit? I'm confused!!! Firefox website says NOTHING about windows 7 or 64bits.
    Thanks for advice/suggestions.
    John in Dallas.

I have one computer with Windows 7 running Firefox and another computer with Windows XP Professional 64 with Firefox running fine on it. I don't think you will have any problems installing Firefox on your new system.

    Thanks - MT,
Any experience with email (thunderbird) I use it exclusively...From posts on the TB site, it doesn't sound encouraging!?
    Thanks / John in Dallas

Thunderbird & Firefox works fine on Win 7 64-bit.

I've got Win 7 Pro 64-bit and have used them both.
Still have FF but no longer use TB.

Win 7 64 bit comes with IE 32 bit & IE 64 bit.
By default IE 32 bit will be used.

I haven't found but a couple 32 bit applications that won't run correctly on a 64 bit OS.

32-bit software runs fine on a 64-bit OS.

Of course you can. All you have to do is shop around for a company that offers a choice of 32 or 64 bit systems. If you choose Dell, Gateway, or HP, though, you're probably pretty much locked into a 64 bit computer.

I recently bought a new desktop, configured to my specs, from a lesser-known company, and was offered a choice of 32 or 64 bit Win7 Home Premium, Pro, Ultimate, or one of three different versions of 32 or 64 bit Linux as my OS.

You are mixing things. I'm 99.99% sure your hardware is 64-bit. As lonestar1 said, you won't be able to find new computer hardware that is 32-bit.

Now that doesn't mean you have to use a 64-bit OS, as you said, you can choose to run a 32-bit OS on 64-bit hardware.

Hope this clears up things a bit :)

    Arie ...

You're right, of course. The company I bought from wouldn't have offered a 64 bit OS if it wouldn't run on the hardware they offered.

I didn't dig that deeply but, if you look at Dell's website, it appears that they don't offer the 32 bit version of Win7. That's why I interpreted lonestar1's post to mean that he was talking about the OS, not the computer itself.

    ========================================================
    Hi--JSS3rd,
Glad to see you're still here and helping us..I'll get my new Dell next week!!!
Don't be surprised if I come screaming to the forums with all things M$ problems!!
I have everything backed up on carbonite?? That should make the conversion easier??
I really wanted to go Ubuntu all the way, but the software they have for MCE - PVR use - simply is beyond ME!!! Works when it feels like it!!! Not for consumer use yet as stated on some of Ubuntu forums.. Hence - windows and MCE....
Any suggestions you might offer will be greatly appreciated, as I'm sure this venture is going to be " "interesting" " to say the least!!
    Thanks / John in Dallas.

    Hello-All,
Well, here I am again!! This is turning into the nightmare I knew it would!!!
Carbonite has really ******* up my system...
They have hung UP on me twice?? Once I'd excuse to phone problems, twice I don't think so!!!
They have no idea how to get my TB emails back into TB?? OR docs. into my word processor??
The backups are there....How do I import my files/folders back to TB? The import function doesn't work??
I installed TB - can send and receive mail - so I know it works...I've copied my profile into the local directory where TB tutorials suggest....Still NO mail from my backup....I don't use profiles, just the default that TB creates...
Thanks for help....This is VERY disappointing learning M$ new OS, and having these backup problems...

    John,

If you have the backup, there's no need for panic.

Please open a new thread and ask for assistance in getting your backed up emails 'back' in the program. I'm sure there are people that can help you.
