    Using Windows XP

Lately, loading IE,has been extremely slow to load.

And then when in IE, it is very slow to respond to mouse commands etc. Seems like it is locked but eventually it does respond.

Maybe download Ad-aware or Spybot. Sounds like stuff running in the background. Run a scandisk, defrag first. See if it speeds up..

Which anti virus program are you using? I was using McAfee5.x and it was killing my IE6 performance (took months to figure out what was doing it). When I upgraded to 7.0 problem vanished.

Caution: "upgrading" from McAfee 5.x is pure torture. The uninstall does not work properly, leaving hundreds of registry entries behind that prevent 7.0 from installing properly. I spent four hours doing manual registry edits to get rid of it after hours attempting to secure support. Their on-line chat support folks are useless. It's the last thing I'll ever buy from McAfee, but it did solved the slow IE6 problem.

PS If you are using McAfee 5.x, there is a patch on their support site that is intended to address this problem. Easier than installing 7.0, if the patch really works.

After getting some replies to my problem, I used a little app called SPYBOT that searches my system for spy apps. I was amazed at the number that were there and allow the program to remove them.

Immediately, the IE worked as it should

Thanks to all and the WindowsBBS for helping
