I have just finished re-building my system after a crash and now I notice that when I open up Windows Explorer in the "Details" view all Folders that contain files have a little box with a "+" check mark inside it displayed to the left side of the Folder.

When I click on a folder the Check Box change to a "-" indicating that he Folder has been expanded.

I am positive that here-to-fore I did not have these check boxes to the left of my Folders.

I just cannot seem to get rid of them?

O.S. is Windows XP (Home) w/Service Pack 1 Installed

    Any help would be appreciated

John - I seem to remember that "Tweaking Toolbox XP" (which you can find by clicking on the RoseCitySoftware at the top of the screen) would allow removal of those. Not positive. The program isn't free but it is inexpensive and I like it better than other similar ones I've used. I have it loaded at home but am at work now so can't even test.

TweakUI might also. Never used it but heard from lots of folks who like it.

If either or both of those will do it, there is a registry setting somewhere but no idea what or where.

And the + - thing is the default so if you didn't have it before, I imagine you had made a change to get rid of it at some point.

    Hi Newt,

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I just gave my young Nephew and call and he has the little boxes to the left of his folders within Explorer.

I must have had another one of my "Senior Moments" thinking that they were not origionally there :)

Again thanks so much -- this is a first class BBS
