I want to disable/turn off/hide the Clipboard Pane in MS Word 2002 (XP) permanently. I don't need it and never want to see it again (reason below). I've Googled about two dozen articles that tell me how to do it from within the program but they DO NOT WORK. :( Apparently no one has ever tried it themselves. If a person replies that it didn't work, they just lose interest in the problem. There was one article that told how to change the registry to accomplish this, but when I tried it that didn't do it either.

I want to do this because every time I do a copy of some text, the Clipboard pane opens up at the right side of the window and throws the careful formatting of my documents completely out of whack. I then have to lose train of thought and close the silly pane. This repeats and repeats. I don't need or want this pane. It's a PAIN!!!

My system is Windows 7, 64-bit, and this version of Word works fine for me in every other way.

I hope there is a way to accomplish this seemingly simple task. Thank you.

To spare potential helpers unnecessary attention to this problem, I've found a workaround.

I've widened the Word window (Duh!) to where it can accommodate both the full width of the document's text area and the (arrgh!) Clipboard Pane so that the Pane doesn't conflict with the text. Doesn't fix the underlying problem, but it allows me to avoid it and forget about it (even though it's annoying to see it there). Thanks!

P.S. This is probably the most useless feature, other than the Ribbon, that I've ever seen in Word, which is partly why I've resolved not to update. All aimed, I guess, at accommodating the abject beginner, which is not a bad thing in itself, but (IMO) it turns a well-oiled machine into somewhat of a plaything.

    I'll mark this as Resolved.

    Print Show AllHide All
1.On the Clipboard task pane (task pane: A window within an Office program that provides commonly used commands. Its location and small size allow you to use these commands while still working on your files.), click Options.
2.Clear the Show Office Clipboard Automatically check box.
3.Clear the Show Office Clipboard When Ctrl+C Pressed Twice check box.
Note To copy items to the Clipboard while it is turned off, select the Collect Without Showing Office Clipboard check box. Hope this helps?

    LJ,

I clicked on the Options option, and the menu that appears has the following four options:

    Show Office Clipboard Automatically
    Collect Without Showing Office Clipboard
Show Office Clipboard Icon on Taskbar
Show Status Near Taskbar When Copying

    (a) None of them is checked.
    (b) There is no "Show Office Clipboard When Ctrl+C Pressed Twice" check box.

Keep in mind that I have the Office XP (2002) version of Word, and you may be referring to a later version.

Thanks for the tip, but -- no joy.

    Frank

Start\run\regedit\H_KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\10.0\Common\General. Right click on general choose New DWORD value Name it AcbContol. Doube click AcbControl and click Edit Give a value of 1 click Ok. Close registry. I used this a long time ago it worked for me. I hope it helps you. Don't forget to back up your reg first.
