I have a new laser printer that is network capable. (RJ45 Wired) I have 3 computers 2 With XP and one is vista/ win7 bual boot .
I am running thru a router and the seven /vista machine runs from a switch
. I want to set up a peer to peer system so each computer can control it’s own printing job.
Do I run a Cat 5e line from the printer RJ45 connection plug on the printer to the router and install the software on each computer.
I have not set up a peer to peer before. Each computer is Not shared with each other. I do not have them checked as shared.

    Thank for reading
    John

I read all that My xp and seven are not going to talk with each other. all I am going to do is send print jobs from Xp machine to the printer to be printed and from my seven machine to the printer. The computers are not going to share files with each other (not shared)
The manual stated that peer to peer was easier than networking them because peer to peer each compered would control it own print job. Networking them I would need to set up a computer as a printer server and that is not an option I want to do.

    Where ? Its utter nonsense.

File sharing is your call. You may or may not share files.

Regarding sharing your printer here are the steps:

    1. Connect your printer to the switch through CAT cable.
    2. Install software on ALL computers that you want to be printing from. Read the manual/installation instructions carefully as network printers are different beasts altogether & have different configuration requirements.

Nobody is calling you stupid John.

We all ask question because we are not sure. No harm in that.
