    Hi, thank you for your time to look at this with me...

    **my question**: I am advised to upgrade with the 32-bit W7 I thought my computer was 64-bit (?)

    The advisor says I have the option to, through a "custom installationâ€:confused:, go with the 64-bit W7. Pls help me understand what the difference is between the 32/64 bit w7 (besides numbers guys);

    I want to go with the 64-bit option. So what is involved in doing the "custom" installation?

    When I ran my computer through the w7 upgrade advisor, I got a few thumbs up, I can upgrade to the 32-bit w7; speed, ram, and space are compliant as well.

    The "˜advisor’ flagged the part that my computer is a "˜Toshiba satellite laptop x200’.
    Went to the manufacturer’s home page and let me tell you, their electronic advice was vague at best:mad:; hence why I am now here, at this forum.

    I used Belarc Analysis to get hopefully the right information for someone here to explain a couple of things; (My major excuse for being glued to my laptop this badly is that I do a lot of digital editing, online courses, and sourcing out information / major surfing).

    PS. I ahve done hours of homework; i'm tired of all this and just wanna get'r done. I am all ready to go, recovery disks are made, every bit of data has been backed up to a terabyte external drive, have things written down to make this a safe journey!

    in short, 64-bit is still relativly new and most applications are still 32-bit. main advantage of 64-bit is being able to use over 3GB of ram. if you want to run a lot of memeory intesive applications, such as graphic adobe stuff, and you have 4GB of memory or more, then it is a good idea. adobe has 64-bit versions of their software.
    but for most people there is no need to use 64-bit..
