I've been using Firefox for years with few problems. I recently had to replace my hard drive. I'm running XP pro with sp3 and all updates current. After installing FF3.6.8 when accessing email thru Verizon webmail FF hangs when attempting to delete an entry and intermittently doing other things like switching back to inbox or spamfilter, etc. IE access same email with no problem and FF seems to work fine with other apps like google or bookmark sites. I have a laptop with Windows 7 and same FFrelease and it works fine.
I have reinstalled FF but didn't uninstall previous issue. I have updated to 3.6.10 with no change.
Any ideas? I will not revert to IE, I just don't like it. Many thanks in advance. :(:(

does the problem continue in Firefox safe mode? How about in a test profile?

Safe Mode: close FF, then click on the windows start button, then run and enter:

    firefox.exe -safe-mode

does the problem continue? If so, then try a test profile:

close FF, then click on the windows start button, then run and enter:

    firefox.exe -p

this will bring up the FF profile manager. Create a test profile, and open FF using that profile. Does the problem continue in that profile?

Hello Z Purple Hippo! Thanks for your prompt response.
Yes, I have tried safe mode and I just created a test profile and the both behave the same as my original default profile. I can read one email but it will not return to the inbox. It says "waiting for mozilla or sometimes waiting for 22mozillaetc. It worked when I first installed it after my hard drive replacement and windows reinstall.

close FF, and this time use the windows add/remove programs, and uninstall FF. Now, when you reinstall it, this time install it into a different directory. Then when you start it up, let it start in the test profile. Does the problem continue?

If yes, then close FF, disable your firewall, restart FF in the test profile. Does it still happen? If yes, then do the same thing but disable your av program this time around. Any good results?

Been away, today test profile works fine. Yesterday nothing worked including IE. Talked to Verizon last week and they convinced me it wasn't them. I've tried various combinations of firewall/virus settings with no real difference. I use Kaspersky and have had minor problems between them and Firefox before. I find it upsetting that Firefox has no real tech support and no visible telephone on earth. The price is right but if it doesn't work who needs it? I can still do business until I figure it out.

great, we're getting somewhere now. As I see it, there is a problem with your main profile. The profile is where all your settings, addons, passwords, etc, are kept.

When you started in safe mode, the problem continues. Safe mode disables all addons and themes. Therefore, its not an addon.

When you created a test profile, the problem went away. So, you have an entry, somewhere, that is causing the problems.

My suggestion: close FF, then locate the file permissions.sqlite, which is located your FF profile. Once found, remove the file, don't delete it, just remove it or rename it. Restart FF and test. Does this work?

No, Firefox/Mozilla does not provide phone help. Never have and never will.

Thanks again for your help. I found and renamed the permission.sqlite file and nothing changed. I follow your logic on the safe and test files. The main problem is it doesn't want to delete either one or a group of files. It also doesn't want to delete an active file that I've read and finished with. With the political season upon us I get a ton of vote for me junk and I don't read them I just want to delete. I have never heard of this file(no surprise) Like most, I just take all this for granted when it works.

Grrrr  !!! {I'm thinking of a word that starts with CR and ends with a P, and its got an A in there somewhere. I'd spell it out, but even that little word gets censored} That should have worked. It does for 9 outa 10 times. I guess you're the unusual one :D

Anyways, from here out you have three options you can decide on:

1 -- delete your cookies and cache. If that doesn't work, then . . .

2 -- copy your password files {signons.sqlite AND key3.db} and your bookmark file {places.sqlite} over to the test profile, and let FF use that profile from now on. NOTE: install any addons you have one at a time and test it out. Thats why I always download my addons to my hard-drive, so I have a copy of them for problems like this.

3 -- And the final option you have is to invest in PopTray: http://www.poptray.org/ . Lots of people use this and have had very good success with it. I'd go with that option myself.

Otherwise I'm out of ideas, unless someone else can help.
