In IE8 whenever I "x" out a window it always ask me to (1) Close Current Tab or (2) Close All Open Tabs.

How do I get it to always default to Close Current Tab w/o getting a pop up every time?

I know I could just x out that paticular tab, but sometimes it's at the top and sometimes the bottom. I still reach for the old, easier to reach "x" in the top corner.

In Internet Explorer click on Tools>Internet Options and on the General tab in the "Tabs" section, click on the Settings button.

In the window that opens, uncheck "Warn me when closing multiple tabs" (check or uncheck any other options you like) click OK and OK to save changes and close. That will tell IE just to close down without any warnings no matter how many tabs you have open.
