Hi guys, I have deleted a programme in error and am getting this message when I turn on my laptop:-

    Power4Gear
    C:|ProgramFiles|ASUS|Power4Gear|CF62BLC
    Open Power policy file error

What can I do to rectify this?

You can either install the program again or use msconfig or program like Autoruns to stop the program from loading.

You can download it from ASUS, but if you post the model no. of your Asus notebook we can be more specific.

I saw that, but am not convinced that it is 100% kosher - Developer Others.

IMO a download direct from Asus would be preferable.

Pete, Thanks very much, just before I go ahead can you tell me what this programme actually does - I am, as stated, not very technically minded!

I hope it all comes together for you Trisha.

PeteC, I an inquisitive about your reluctance to use the link I gave for the driver, I could understand that if the site wanted paying for it but it is clearly free. Could it contain anything untrustworthy. I did note that is was version 1.17 yet the Asus site has it at V1.12.

Trisha, for future protection if something goes wrong you should make some system recovery discs. Your user manual will tell you how or visit the Asus site for a guide.

Mark as Pete pointed out, it's not an official ASUS release, it's best to stick with the manufacturers unless there is extenuating circumstances.

Wildfire has it in a nutshell - the file was not flagged as from Asus. Newer versions are not necessarily better - the version listed may be newer than that on the Asus site, which was the original loaded to the computer, but Asus saw no need to update it.

I found threads regarding later versions than the Asus one which had caused some issues.

I always err on the side of caution :)

Hi guys, it's me again, I am trying to do the download as Pete suggested, it is in a compressed zipped file - what does this mean? I am used to running programmes from dowloads only!

    Yes, it's a compressed file - .zip

Right click on it > Extract. The contents will be extracted to a folder in the same location as the .zip file.

Probably contains only a .exe file (double click on it to run) - maybe a ReadMe too.

Umm, sorry to butt in again but to extract that file your will need something like WinZip. I am not aware of any freeware Zip programs, maybe PeteC can advise.
