I use frontpage 2000 and when trying to use it in windows 7 the error message I get is:
"There is a newer version of the server extensions on this machine. To configure these extensions use the server extensions administrator or the internet service manager. "
The server extensions kit I found only goes up to xp. How do I get it to work or am I out of luck & then what do I do?

Thank you for any help you could provide,
    Shirley

According to the Windows 7 Application Compatibility List for IT Professionals FrontPage 2000 is not compatible with Windows 7 which would probably explain the error message.

FrontPage 2003 is compatible and I use it myself on 7 x64 Pro without issues.

I can only suggest that you try to track down a copy of FrontPage 2003 - try eBay for a start.

Thank you for your reply, I had a feeling it wasn't going to work.

Another question, if I have access to a drive that has windows 7 and frontpage 2003. Is it possible for me to use this drive in an external case? Will it cause problems for my c: drive in my new computer with the windows 7? It belongs to somebody that said I could use it if I needed to. But I don't want to confuse my computer with it & will get my own FP 2003 if I need to.

    Thank you,
    Shirley

Unfortunately that would not work - the OS cannot be run from an external drive and in any case the OS will be running from your C:\ drive. When a program is installed many files are installed within Windows, in this case Windows on the external drive.

If you have access to the install CD for FrontPage 2003 you may well find that you can install it on the new computer using the same key - that is my experience.

I replied before your edit so if your friend has the install CD give it a go - it can do no harm.

There is no 2003 disk available to me but since I have FP 2000 on my computer, do you think I could get the 2003 upgrade which would be cheaper? I also found a download for 2003, is that possible to have it installed? http://excellent-software.net/shop/item/195/ After getting the new computer I really didn't want to have to buy another program if possible so cheap is good for me but don't want to run into anymore problems either.

    Thank you,
    Shirley

The URL lists the full version rather than upgrade. The site should be trustworthy as a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner and the software should install without any issue.

FrontPage was discontinued after 2003 in favour of MS Expression Web

Several offerings on eBay which you might get cheaper than $39.90 which looks like a very good price.

I also forgot to mention that it's good knowing that FrontPage 2003 was the last of the Frontpage program so I'm really glad it is compatible with win 7. Thank you,
    Shirley
