Hello, I saw the new HP Touch-Smart 600 all in one computer....its awsome!!!Has anyone bought this yet? I am interested in it.....I know that it is wireless and you can take it anyware in the house. I already have a router. Is this how the "new" computer would find my printer and scanner? It would be in the network? It's a little pricey but it sure is nice.
    Thanks, Bev

    Hi Bev,

I expect most of us with roots in hardware like to build our own computers. I do.:)

I expect the all-in-ones will be like laptops to repair or upgrade, so they wont be at the top of my list. If you need replacement parts, you wont be able to use generic ones and manufacturer parts will probably cost and arm and a leg.

Not for me, but it probably won't be long before I am asked to try to repair them :)

If you are keen, although they seem rather a novelty to me, here are some reviews

Because this new HP touch-smart is wireless, and I have a router, I can hook this up in another room and stll use my tower and not have to worry about transfering anything. Also, would this pick up my printer through the network so I could send things to the printer? I used to be able to do that with my other laptop but the windows vista home prem that I have in it won't support it. Also, if i do use it as my main computer, would I have to get new cables for my printer and scanner?
    Thanks,Bev

If you have the printer connected to the desktop and "share" the printer over the network, it might be OK. BUT, if you couldn't make it work with Vista, you will have the same problem with Windows 7. Sorry, but I don't have experience with "cross-platform" operating systems sharing a printer. Windows often has a basic set of drivers for popular models of printers, so if you looked in the "list" of drivers Windows offers for printers you might find your model or you might be able to tell it to "search on the internet" for drivers. I take it that the printer manufacturer doesn't offer any drivers for Vista or Windows 7 on it's website.

If the printer only works on the desktop computer, which I take it as having Windows XP, you will need to keep the printer connected to that computer unless you might be lucky enough to find Windows 7 drivers.

That is the usual story with getting a new version of Windows, unless the hardware manufacturer "publishes" sets of drivers for the new OS, the hardware becomes redundant.

yes, you are right. I believe this is done so to make the person buy a new printer that is compatible with the new pc. I went "crazy" looking and trying to set that up in the past...wrote to everyone only to find out that vista is not supported to print share ): It used to be great to be on my laptop in one room, finding things I wanted to print and just sending it to my tower at the end of the house. I believe that laptop was Toshebia. The print share worked great but had many issues with that pc.
    Thanks, Bev
